With including drivers, optional updates for Windows 10 are making a comeback and with easy discovery. Since the last August 2020 security update for Windows 10, Microsoft has started rolling out a change to make it easier to discover optional updates. A change that is reminiscent of what was done with Windows 7.
This is about functionality updates, but also monthly updates that are not related to security, as well as updates for drivers.
When optional updates are detected, a link appears on the main settings page for Windows Update.
Optional driver updates appear as below, with checkboxes where applicable.
At the same time, Windows Update will continue to automatically keep drivers up to date. However, the installation of optional drivers (without going through the device manager) may be able to help resolve any problems encountered.
