After the launch at CES 2011, and the first sales of the model-based AMD, Sony VAIO YB, the Japanese company officially introduced its Intel-based price model, Sony VAIO YA. Available on SonyStyle Europe priced at € 649 (around Rs. 39,854/-), VAIO YA boasts an Intel Core i3-380UM, backed by 2GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive. Like its VAIO YB, YA VAIO also features a 11.6-inch screen (1366×768 pixels) and a magnesium alloy chassis, suitable for mobility but also able to provide some comfort.
It weighs 1.5kg, Sony VAIO YA comes with a 6-cell battery (from 37.8Wh) capable of giving a range of about 6 hours. For the most demanding users, the Japanese company makes available a large capacity battery and can provide a range of at least 12 consecutive hours of work. Among the configuration options available on the online configurator Sony VAIO YA will also be equipped with an Intel Core i5-470UM to 1.33GHz, with a surcharge of 99 € (around Rs. 6079/-).
The preinstalled OS is Windows 7 Home Premium, but you can also choose the Professional version. The space for storing data, however, will be given as an alternative to a 500GB hard drive, or 128GB or 256GB SSD drive (for 750 € extra i.e. around Rs. 46,056/-).
Sony VAIO YA will be sold in black or burgundy. The configuration of top range of Sony VAIO YA costs 1729 € (around Rs. 1,06,176/-).
