Samsung has announced an event for the presumed presentation of a cheaper variant of the Galaxy S20. Rumors about this have been going on for months. The presentation will take place next week.
Samsung calls the event ‘Galaxy Unpacked for every fan’, while the phone is rumored to be called Galaxy S20 Fan Edition. The invitation also shows a phone shape in different colors, i.e. Galaxy: purple, green, pink, red, white and orange. US provider Verizon Wireless has 360-degree renders of the S20 Fan Edition in some of those colors on the site, as per Android Police reports.
Last year, Samsung called the cheaper S10 S10 Lite, while it only used the Fan Edition name for the re-released version of the exploding Galaxy Note 7 in 2016. The S20 Fan Edition would largely be an S20 with Qualcomm Snapdragon 865-soc and 120Hz -oled screen, but with 1080p resolution instead of 1440p and with less RAM.
The cameras would also have been downgraded compared to the S20. How much it should cost is not yet known. The S20 came out this spring for 900 euros in the 4G version and 1000 euros for the 5G version. The event will take place next Wednesday, i.e. September 23rd at 10AM ET.
