QNAP has announced a network switch with 2.5-gigabit Ethernet. The QSW-1105-5T features five 2.5GbE ports. It is the company’s first 2.5-gigabit Ethernet switch. The switch is currently available in Taiwan for the equivalent of 90 euros.
The QSW-1105-T has dimensions of 180x145x34mm and weighs 577 grams. On the front of the device there are five RJ45 connectors and a DC connector for power supply. The switch is passively cooled and QNAP reports that the device consumes up to 12W of power. The front of the switch also contains two LEDs, one that indicates whether the switch is on and one that is lit when there is a loop in the network.
The switch is currently only available in Taiwan. The QSW-1105-5T costs about 3000 Taiwan dollars there, which equates to 90 euros. The switch has also appeared at some Dutch web-shops for around 124 euros, according to the sources. However, these web-shops do not yet have the device in stock. It is not known when the switch will be available in the Netherlands.
QNAP seems to focus on the 1105-5T primarily for consumer home use. This makes the product one of the first unmanaged consumer switches with support for 2.5Gbit / s connections. Recently, many manufacturers have already released 2.5-gigabit Ethernet motherboards for AMD and Intel CPUs. QNAP also released several NAS systems with 2.5GbE connections earlier .
