The Japanese giant Panasonic has announced the arrival by September of a new full-frame hybrid box to complete its S range. Called Lumix S5, it would be more compact than the S1 and also rumored to be more affordable.
While Nikon has announced the arrival of a full-frame hybrid that is more affordable than its Z6 and Z7, the Z5 and Canon has shown its muscles by unveiling the high-end Canon EOS R6, it is now up to Panasonic to complete its S range with the new full-frame Lumix S5 hybrid.
In its press release, or rather its teaser, Panasonic announces that the device will be officially presented on September 2 at 4 p.m. via an online conference (Covid requires). You will be able to follow the event on the manufacturer’s website if you wish. And that’s all ! The mark gives no other information.
Features on the run
It will have more compact body (132.6 x 97.1 x 81.9mm) and less expensive than the S1, which will allow the brand to compete with the Nikon Z5, Canon EOS RP and Sony A7 II. A very good thing because the S1 and S1R in particular are excellent but more expensive than their rivals. Moreover, it is hoped that new, cheaper optics will also be announced alongside the case. At present, the limited range and price of compatible optics remain the main shortcomings of the Japanese giant’s full-frame hybrids.
According to the sources. it also indicates that the device would carry a 24.2 Mpx effective sensor, which it would film in 4K60p like its big brothers, of which it would take most of the characteristics, with the exception of the viewfinder, since it would display only 2.36 Mpx (but still a frame rate of 120 Hz) against 5.76 for S1 and a slower burst of 7 fps against 9 for the others.
On the other hand, the autonomy would be a little higher, 470 images in the viewfinder against 360 for the S1 according to the sources test reports. In short, see you on September 2 to know the official characteristics of the case.
