India has decided to ban a total of 59 Chinese apps, including the popular TikTok and WeChat. Respectively, the ByteDance short form video sharing application and social network and the Tencent messaging application for national security issues.
The ban also affects ByteDance’s Helo social network, UC Browser, Chinese Twitter Weibo, ES File Explorer, several mobile applications from Baidu and Xiaomi, optimization and cleaning tools, various games.
According to the Indian Ministry of Information Technology, applications are ” detrimental to the sovereignty and integrity of India, the defense of India, the security of the state and public order. “
The ban measure would follow complaints of data theft and unauthorized transmission of user data to servers outside India.
It is obviously necessary to add to this affair the geopolitical context tense between China and India. To see how the ban on Chinese applications will be implemented technically.
