Google has expanded its News service to issue weather warnings in extreme weather. Users will be notified if a warning has been issued by the weather forecasters in their region.
The weather alerts can be seen in the Android and iOS application for Google News. On the main screen, users will see the text “alert” if there is a warning in their area. Those who then go to the weather details will receive information about the issued warning. The website 9To5Google noticed this when they received a weather warning for extreme heat.
When expanding the weather warning, you can see by which authority the notification was issued and for how long it is valid. It is striking that the warnings are not shown in the widget for Google News on Android, this may be added at a later stage.
