Google will now ban ads that spread conspiracy theories about the coronavirus. In addition, websites that do not comply with the rules can be removed from the Google advertising network.

As of mid-next month, ads that make claims about the coronavirus that go against “scientific consensus” are no longer allowed. Such ads will now be removed, and websites that violate this policy may be excluded from Google’s advertising services.

There are many conspiracy theories about Covid-19 that have become increasingly persistent since the pandemic began. With the new policy, Google wants to avoid creating doubts about disinformation about, for example, the origin of the virus and the dangers of a vaccine.

Google already had a policy that would not allow advertisers to spread medical disinformation. The new policy on Covid-19 is an extension of that.
