Foxconn to build Amazon’s 10.1-inch tablet

Amazon 10.1-inch and 7-inch tablets are among the most awaited devices and should be released this year. According to Digitimes, Foxconn company has been given the task of manufacturing the former.

At present we know very little about the technical specifications of the two Amazon tablet. A model should incorporate Nvidia Tegra 3, Kal-El quad-core processor, while the other quad-core chips will be based on Nvidia’s Tegra 2. Almost certainly the 10-inch tablet will adopt the faster processor, which provides better performance than equal to 500% the dual core chips. The model with Tegra 3 currently has code-named Hollywood and the smallest 7-inch Tegra 2 is called Coyote.

According to DigiTimes sources, Amazon plans to sell about 1 to 1.2 million of tablet later this year. The estimate, though very far from the numbers registered by Apple, is certainly the highest in the tablet segment, non-IOS. For this, we will add about 12 million ebook reader Kindle by 2011. Amazon has turned to Foxconn for the production of Hollywood 10.1-inch Tablet with touchscreen display will be provided by Wintek by the end of September.

Version 7-inch Coyote, was produced by Quanta Computer and has already begun shipping to Amazon.
