ByteDance picks Oracle over Microsoft for TikTok US deal

Oracle, big winner of the American auctions for TikTok. The professional management software publisher has been chosen to become the “trusted technology partner” of the Chinese-born social network. The news came less than an hour after Microsoft’s offer was rejected by ByteDance.

TikTok taps Oracle

The publisher will operate TikTok’s activities on American soil, a collaboration rather than a buyout. Previously, Microsoft’s offer had been rejected by ByteDance.

A partnership rather than a buyout

This status will make it possible not to make an outright redemption of the American branch of the application. Oracle will be able to operate TikTok’s activities in the United States from its own servers located in the country. It is therefore rather a partnership between the two companies.

On August 6, Donald Trump signed an order prohibiting ByteDance from all its transactions on American soil and asking an American company to buy back its activity. This decision was taken following an investigation by the CFIUS (Committee on Foreign Investment in the US), estimating that the Chinese social network posed potential security risks.
