Square Enix has announced Balan Wonderworld. This 3d action platformer is made by two of the creators of Sonic the Hedgehog, among others. The game will be released in the spring of 2021 for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and desktop.
Balan Wonderworld is set in the ‘magical Balan theater’, Square Enix writes in a press release. Players must “save the cast members of the theater from negative emotions.” Players do this as characters Leo or Emma, who travel through different imaginary worlds. Among other things, gamers can collect different costumes, each of which offers its own ‘power’.
The game is co-created by Yuji Naka and Naoto Ohshima, two of the creators of the original Sonic the Hedgehog game from 1993. The former takes on the role of director, while Ohshima works as a character designer. It is the first game the two make together at Square Enix. The pair release their work under a new ‘game brand’ called Balan Company.
The game will be released in the spring of 2021 for the Nintendo Switch and the next-gen consoles from Microsoft and Sony. Smart Delivery is supported for the Xbox Series X. A PC version of the game is released on Steam.
