Acer has introduced its new laptop for business users, Acer TravelMate 8481 is based on Intel Huron River and dedicated Nvidia GeForce 520M GT graphics card, but also features the new ultra-slim LG Display, which makes it one of the Core i7 thinnest laptop in the world.
Among the innovations presented at Computex 2011, the Taiwanese company has also introduced its new business notebook, the Acer TravelMate 8481. This is especially a notebook, marked by innovative solutions. The carbon-fiber body, compact and lightweight at the same time, is very simple and elegant, with a linear and clean design, a black and a matte finish. The first striking thing about this notebook is its thickness, however, very limited view of the budget, largely due to the adoption of a new ultra-thin LCD by LG.
In fact the screen has a diagonal of 14 inches in 16:9 format with resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, therefore also suitable for playing video in HD 720p. Featuring the Acer ComfyView LED backlight, the display occupies the space of a frameless 13-inch display, maximizing the visual space and saving both the size and weight. Despite the lack of a frame, however, Acer is able to integrate the display a 1.3-megapixel Crystal Eye with its microphone.
The piano keyboard is also very enjoyable, characterized by the classic keyboard for Acer FineTip isolated elements, a large multi-touch touchpad and the presence of a fingerprint sensor Bio Protection, with a TPM chip. At the heart of the laptop, there is a dual-core processor Intel Core i7 Sandy Bridge-2617M 1.5 GHz, combined with a dedicated graphics card based on Nvidia GeForce 520M GT Core GF119, GF108 an edited version. 48 pipelines are so unified and frequencies of 600 or 740 MHz core, 1200 or 1480 MHz for the shader units, 800 or 900 MHz for memory and a bus 64 or 128 bits, depending on the choices of the individual producer.
As always there to support PureVideo HD technology for hardware decoding of compressed video streams, CUDA and DirectCompute OpenCL 2.1 to exploit the parallel architecture of the core GPGPU calculations (e.g. calculation of real-time physics), in addition to support for DirectX 11 and Shader Model 5.0. Thanks to Nvidia Optimus is also possible to disable the graphics card when not engaged in 3D calculations as well to take advantage of the Intel GMA 3000 IGP, reducing fuel consumption and maximizing battery life.

The DDR3 RAM available amounts to 8 GB, while the data storage space is 320 GB, but instead should be also available with a capacity of 128 GB SSD. Other features include an Ethernet LAN, WiFi 802.11n and Bluetooth 3.0 + modules HS, a multiformat card reader, 3 USB 2.0 ports in a combo eSATA, one USB 3.0, audio jack for Line In and Out and digital video outputs analog and HDMI and VGA.
According to Acer this notebook should finally reach the significant autonomy of less than 13 hours, obviously depending on the use that they make and the choice of energy saving profile. Acer TravelMate 8481 should debut by the summer, but still do not know the official price.
