Sony to end MiniDisc Walkman production

´╗┐Sony has announced that it would stop MiniDisc Walkman devices production this coming September. Players / recorders using the MD format owner / MiniDisc were introduced by Sony in the early 90’s.

Sold 22 million copies worldwide in just two decades, according to the latest estimates (as of March 2011), with millions more sold by other companies that licensed the technology, including big names such as Sharp, Kenwood, Panasonic and others.

The Japanese group has indeed decided it was time to stop production due to low demand, only the WalkMan will cease production but the MiniDisc format will still be around.
