Google will go through the SMS infrastructure of Orange in Africa to deploy their communication service Gmail SMS Chat in several markets.

Google will benefit from the strong presence of the operator Orange in Africa to deliver its communications services by SMS and participate in the democratization of mobile services on the continent, seen as one of the next growth areas for mobile phones.

And to adapt to the mobile networks, GSM more often (although some countries are very advanced in this area and launch LTE networks already), the service “Gmail SMS Chat” social network to be deployed on new markets.

Already available in Senegal, Uganda and Kenya, will soon be launched in African countries where Orange operates: Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea Conakry and Niger, before wider deployment in Africa and the Middle East.

This is also the technical challenge to offer SMS and GSM services traditionally deployed on smartphones and mobile broadband.
