Facebook wants to open a service where advertisers can bid on in real time advertising positions within the social networking site. The service called Facebook Exchange, similar to the model that Google uses to sell ads.
The new advertising platform, which in the air should calculate the price per thousand clicks. The ad positions within the social networking site by partner companies will be offered to potential advertisers, as per Bloomberg reports. Until now, the emphasis within the ad sales at Facebook on the preferences of users that they express in their profile or through the familiar Like button.
The social-networking site has its share value plummet after it made its IPO last month. Analysts are worried that Facebook is able to generate sufficient revenue from placing ads. A recent survey by Reuters also indicated that only 1 in 5 Facebook users have bought products in response to ads on social networking site or through comments from other Facebook members.
